From the Musha Collection comes this intricately hand-forged 66-inch “Musashi” Odachi. Full-tang 1045 high-carbon steel makes this a resilient katana that is razor-sharp right out of the box.
Traditional black color-themed Odachi with a Tsuba designed by the Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
Arguably the most famous Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, was undefeated in 61 duels. He is a unique swordsman who utilizes double-bladed swordsmanship.
Not only was he a great swordsman, Musashi was also a philosopher and a writer. In his final years, he authored “The Book of Five Rings” which dealt with his practical martial arts and its significance.
An ōdachi (large/great sword) was a traditional Japanese sword used by the samurai class in feudal Japan. In terms of practicality, the Odachi has two primary uses: ceremonial and an infantry sword.
Ōdachi are difficult to produce because their length makes them more complicated, but they were very popular during the Edo period. Then, Odachi was seen as a fashion, commonly seen in various ceremonies.
This extra-long blade features integrated Bo-Hi. Bo-Hi is commonly known as blood grooves, but that is a common misconception. The purpose of the Bo-Hi is to help reduce the weight of the katana; it actually has nothing to do with channeling the blood.
Making the Katana lighter enables the user to wield it more easily and reduces stress on the hands. Not to mention it benefits some advanced cutting techniques that require the katana to change direction rapidly.
All Musha swords can be fully disassembled. Mokko Gata style Tsuba, Fuchi, and Kashira can all be swapped out for a different set. The real wood handle is wrapped with traditional cotton.
Included with this Odachi is a maintenance kit to make sure your katana lasts a lifetime, as well as a sword bag and a deluxe gift box.
